Henry was totally amazed today when he noticed his shadow following him around the kitchen. He kept walking back and forth and acting a little worried that this thing was following him and touching his feet. Then he turned around and walked toward the window, looking over his shoulder to see if it was still following him.
It was.
He followed me into the sunroom and his shadow kept appearing every time he passed a window. This is one of my many favorite parts of babyhood: chunky thighs toddling around, belly hanging over diaper, curls sticking out the back of his head, his skin softer than satin, the world a place of newness and wonder. When was the last time I really thought about my shadow?
I sat in the rocking chair to revel in his beauty and he came close to me and tugged on my skirt until I stood up. Then he held out his little arms for me to lift him into the chair. He sat down with a big smile, spread out his arms and legs, and rocked.
This is his new thing. He likes to kick me out of chairs so he can sit in them.
That’s my little prince, royalty with a buddha belly.
