Mermaids, Fairies, Pillows of Rose Petals

Annabelle’s hair obsession continues. She wants long hair, and after our puppet making adventure (making sock puppets), she kept pulling out the purple yarn and asking me to make her into a puppet.
“How will I make the yarn stick to your head?” I asked her.
“Sew it on,” she replied.
“We can’t sew yarn onto your head,” I explain, “You’re not a sock.”
We reached a good compromise by tying long pieces of yarn onto a hat my sister knitted for us years ago that never fit. I was inspired to do this when I remembered a witch hat I had as a child that had long orange yarn for hair. I loved this witch hat because I could pretend to have long hair, which, come to think of it, I always wanted. My mother wouldn’t let me have long hair because I refused to comb it. Growing up, she kept all of our hair in horrible-looking shag cuts ala Carol Brady. I’ve been wondering where Annabelle’s hair obsession comes from, and the arrows seem to be pointing to me!
In any case, Annabelle LOVED her new long hair! She wore the hat all day and refused to take it off even though she was sweating. She wore it in her face, swished it behind her shoulder, ran in circles and watched it fly behind her. We decided it was like mermaid hair. She asked me to make a mermaid tail for her out of silk. I love being part of her magical world.
She wore her new hair in the stroller today, and when she glanced down to the sidewalk and saw all the fallen rose petals, she said, “Mom, the fairies knew we were coming! They left pillows of rose petals for us to walk on!”
It reminded me of the time in Utah that she pointed out the white puffy clouds on the snowy mountains. She said they were cloud blankets, keeping the mountains cozy.

Marci Darling

I lie here on my pink puffy bed in my pink silky pajamas, or pink flannel depending on my mood (the only thing you can bank on is that there will be chocolate smeared somewhere on my attire), with my pink feathered pen, writing my most delicious daydreams. Funny? Sometimes. Scandalous? Hopefully. Inspiring? Perhaps. Full of love? Always. Welcome to my World.
