Dear God! I think I’m delirious from lack of sugar! Earlier, all I could think was that I should change the name of my blog from Marci-licious to Marci-Unhinged! (I’ve had loads of fun lately coming up with new blog names with my friends: think Merci-Marci, Marvelous-Marci, or my personal favorite, (not for the masses I’m told), Marci-Gasm!  Now I’m looking at a blog and laughing hysterically–like laughing until tears are running down my cheeks! What is this funny blog about you might ask? The awkward sleeping positions of cats!! And I include it here for those of you who might want to laugh your asses off!

George came home this late afternoon and I was sitting in the kitchen holding Mr. Mischief on my lap, talking to Annabelle. I was on the verge of tears. “What’s the matter?” he asked me. “Henry fell out of the refrigerator,” I replied. George looked confused. “What was he doing in the refrigerator?” “He likes to climb up and stand on the lower ledge. He was standing there and he slipped and knocked his nose and forehead and cheek in…

  • The Clever Princess

I just heard Annabelle yell, “Don’t take your cape off Henry! You’re my prince!!” When I looked at Henry, he had a baby blanket tied around his shoulders as a cape. “Darlin,” she said like a country singer, “keep your cape on!” Henry is usually thrilled to play any sort of game with Annabelle. He calls her “Babelle.” He rarely makes a peep, just looks around with his big baby eyes and smiles. He’s learning so much from her and…

Ahhhh, we went to eat at Babylon Cafe on Maple Street tonight and I took one bite of the rice and labneh and instant intoxication. A flood of sense memories came rushing at me: so many years of being steeped in the best parts of Middle Eastern culture, the celebrations! Weddings, birthdays, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, I even danced at a Briss (circumcision) and at a hospital for a man on his deathbed. I’ve danced for Saudi royalty, dignitaries, and…

  • Dr. Pinky and the Tickle Monster

Henry awakened me last night asking to nurse “fo one minute.” I said no, he kept asking, so I raised the two-finger tickle monster who said, “Sh!” over and over again until it reached Henry’s tummy and he collapsed in giggles. This went on for a while, and Henry kept asking, so finally Dr. Pinky came out and said, “No nursing! You’re too big! Nursing is for babies.” Henry said, “Dat pinky can’t talk! He doesn’t have a mouth!” Exactly!…

  • Lemon Souffle Sheets–MMMM!

I just caught myself talking to my sheet. “You are so beautiful,” I whispered as I lovingly tried to fold it. I’ve never quite gotten the hang of folding fitted sheets. They’re very unruly. But this sheet. Oh this sheet. I dreamed of this sheet for years before I bought it today. Linen, real linen. Heirloom linen. In the most divine yeallo. They call it maize; I call it lemon souffle, buttercream, soft sunshine after a wild rain. These Bellanotte…
