Fifi Mahoney’s!
A showgirl’s dream on Royal Street in the French Quarter, Fifi Mahoney’s is beyond fabulous! When I was a showgirl in Los Angeles, I had to get my wigs and makeup at skanky smelly dives on Hollywood Boulevard. I thought I had stepped into Showgirl Heaven when I entered Fifi’s. A red velvet couch shaped like lips, three rooms full of anything a showgirl could desire! A front room full of fabulous makeup, sparkly jewels and hairbands with tiny birds and nests, pasties, eyelashes, and the most incredible wig confections you could dream up—huge pink cotton candy wigs with tiny birds, cupcakes, giant tiaras…the back room is full of lovely wigs, falls, ponytails, and spin chairs and mirrors and a helpful staff to try them on. Then the back room has hats and various costume pieces. I’ve bought blue wigs, red wigs, platinum wigs, wigs for me, my 6-year-old daughter, my best friend…and to top it all off, it smells good!
Here’s an adorable 1950’s ponytail clip I bought at Fifi’s for $15!! Perfect solution for a bad hair day! (The dress is the Audrey from Trashy Diva. The handbag is vintage. And the restaurant is my all time favorite in New Orleans–Crepe Nanou!!)
This is my luscious red wig (I’ve always wanted deep red hair) and Sharon Sugar is wearing a blond ponytail from Fifi’s–we are out in the French Quarter with Cathy Weeks:
Here is an adorable pink wig on my BFF Kim at Mardi Gras:
And one of my favorite hairbands given to me as a gift by Sharon Sugar–love the white plume! I wear it all the time (but I can’t drive very well in it–it barely fits in the car!)
