Yvonne LaFleur—All the Uptown ladies buy their hats and ballgowns here.
Located behind Camellia Grill on Carrollton, this store is worth visiting even if you don’t need bridal lingerie!
Every corner of the store looks like a movie set. We’re talking boas and faux furs and silks and sparkles…When you walk in you will immediately notice the smell of violets wafting from every corner of the store. That’s a scent Yvonne created herself in London back in the 60’s and she has a full time man stand behind her little perfume counter handing out samples as you walk in. The floor is covered in violets that match the tissue paper they wrap your loot in. The bride room is breathtaking with all manner of gowns hanging from the ceiling. There’s even a “mother-of’the-bride” room! Each room of gowns has it’s own little stage and runway and tailors on hand will fit your dress to you for free then and there!
There is a Breakfast at Tiffany’s section with silk eye masks and tuxedo shirts, just like Holly GoLightly wore, and for the Savvy Spenders—there are piles of beautiful earrings around the $60 mark! A deal for sure!
Yvonne is a character and many of her daughters work there (she has 8 children!). She is VERy child friendly–when my kids entered the bridal room and promptly started playing hide-and-seek among the white dresses and carousel horses, I told them to stop and she said in her thick honey southern drawl, “Oh darling, let them play! They are making wonderful memories!”
Yvonne is fabulous! I don’t know any other store owner who would be so liberal with their white dresses!
