The Plaza Hotel: Luxury Family Glamour

A couple of weeks ago I took my kids to The Plaza for Eloise Tea and to see Hamilton. The Plaza was expensive, but worth every penny. August is HOT in NYC, adding the crowds and you can have a miserable time out on the streets. The Plaza is an oasis. Just walking into the lobby with the dripping chandeliers, towering palm trees and flower arrangements and the smell of gardenias… all your worries disappear like a sugar cube in rosehip tea.

We got upgraded to a terrace room. What is a terrace room? Something you should ask for the next time you stay at The Plaza! Oh my goodness–it was a dream. Our beautiful room–with its chandeliers and marble floors and massive multiple french doors leading out to a terrace with cushioned lounges, pools, and manicured gardens. I told the front desk to put my name on this room for all future stays.

The enormous marble bath, inlaid with swirly gold designs, was so gorgeous I took 3 hot baths in 24 hours. (One needs that many baths in August in New York.)

And the closets–when I saw the dark wood closest with their soft lights and hidden computer charging areas, I thought I heard a choir of angels sing.

The kids were ecstatic. Henry sat down to start on his new lego set and Annabelle put on her old-fashioned nightgown, played Sinatra on the in-room iPad, and immediately started whisking in and out of the french doors.

The Eloise tea, also expensive but worth every penny, was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. The Palm Court is just so unbelievably luscious and the tea sets are fabulous, the service impeccable, and the cosmos are pink and frothy just like they should be.

Trying on party dresses at the Eloise shop downtairs–the Todd English Food Hall downstairs is worth a trip too–excellent food options and the kids can go downstairs themselves in the hotel!

I can’t recommend The Plaza highly enough for a family visiting NYC–the pinnacle of glamour.

I lie here on my pink puffy bed in my pink silky pajamas, or pink flannel depending on my mood (the only thing you can bank on is that there will be chocolate smeared somewhere on my attire), with my pink feathered pen, writing my most delicious daydreams. Funny? Sometimes. Scandalous? Hopefully. Inspiring? Perhaps. Full of love? Always. Welcome to my World.
