I’m simply amazed by the miracles of modern medicine!
They put a new hip in my body on Tuesday morning, August 31, and I was home by Tuesday afternoon, climbing 19 steps to my bedroom! Admittedly, they did give me two injections of ephedrine because my block pressure had dropped so low, so I probably could have climbed a mountain.
Before leaving the surgery center, I was lying in a bed, waking up from the sedative, when I delightedly noticed a cat sitting on a nurses head. How thrilling that they now allow cats in surgery centers. However, I was wrong. It turned out to be her ponytail. Now I’m on my sparkle crutches and I get to wear stormtrooper compression boots that beep and light up.
I’m in awe of all the doctors, nurses, and these incredible people who have devoted their lives to healing people. Thank you! And one recommendation: nurses should wear darling little cats on their heads- cat therapy!
So tonight, I lift a glass to my ol’ hip… (or if not a glass, a Tramadol). It’s been a good hip, grown two amazing souls, been the source of endless dancing pleasure and supported me now for half a century. It’s time for my to go to hip heaven…
Hip Hip Hooray! (Just kidding- surgery sucks, but I’m told the pain-free existence afterwards is well worth it. I’ll let you know.)
