I was flying from LAX to Boston recently, and I was worn out and so tired I considered wearing my sweats on the plane.
“I just want to be incognito,” I said to my friend Cristie.
She said “Incognito from who?”
I said, “Myself!”
But then common sense swooped in and said, “Absolutely not! You must dress for travel! You must move through the world in a way that enchants you!”
So I rallied, wearing a comfortable sundress, and a garden on my head, which I started doing when I couldn’t fit all my hair accessories in my carry on without crushing them, so I stuck them all on my head and forgot about them, but the world greeted me with such warm endearing delight, like I was their eccentric Aunt Tilly bringing them warm chocolate chip cookies, that I decided flower crowns would become a staple of my daily style.
The world is a softer more beautiful place when people smile and shout cheerful comments across airports.
So I settled into my non-enchanting non-reclining seat in the exit row, and a pretty young airline attendant tapped me on the shoulder with a big smile, “I’m sorry to bother you, but are you that lady from Girls Love Travel? The one who writes the stories?”
“Yes I am,” I said, and we talked, and then the other airline attendants joined her, and it made the long flight feel like… well… eating a plate of warm gooey chocolate chip cookies. (Now I’m just making myself hungry.)
So it’s 7am, and here I am at the Boston airport heading out on another adventure in my incognito travel style…
