One of my favorite shops on the planet is on Martha’s Vineyard. Midnight Farm is owned by Carly Simon and run by Tamara–both of whom find make the world more beautiful with their choices for home decor and attire. I have bought stunning dresses here, beautiful Chan Luu wrap bracelets, and lot’s of furniture and linens. When we had our home on Martha’s Vineyard, we had the living room and dining room done by Tamara. George and I have opposite tastes: he likes everything contemporary and streamlined and everything I decorate turns into a moroccan bordello or 1920’s movie star dressing room. Midnight Farm was a shop we both loved and we decided to step outside our normal choices and we were thrilled with the results! George’s favorite piece: a leather club chair. My favorite pieces: Karma Living footstools, a sparkling buddha statue, and a wrought iron chandelier with stars that Carly gave us as a gift. (George worked closely with her on many projects over a couple of years. I so hope the kids remember our endless summer days at her pool with her sitting next to us playing You’re So Vain on her guitar while the kids swam.)
I don’t like saying someone has “good taste”–seems judgmental and so subjective–but I think Carly and Tamara have impeccable taste. Everything is beautiful, but also whimsical and magical. If you’re looking for something extra special, call the shop and tell them your vision. Or better yet, cross that ocean to visit the shop. You won’t regret it!
Also, Carly has written an amazing children’s book called “Midnight Farm”–it’s one of my kid’s favorites!
