Trashy Diva!

Trashy Diva
This store could have been named for the ultimate trashy diva–me!
Incredible retro designs in gorgeous fabrics cut for today’s bodies—I have an entire collection of stunning dresses, skirts, silk slips, velvet coats, shoes, jewels…you get the picture. Love the ultra sparkly brooches and necklaces, and most glamorous vintage purses!! And of course stunning flowers for your hair! They always play glamorous old music for your shopping pleasure and to get you in the mood for their vintage designs. Their designer, Candace Gwynn, is a genius! Her dress designs somehow manage to flatter my gi-normous tatas and my girlfriend’s small B tata’s at the same time! They look amazing on every body type! And the silks!! So luxurious!! And my all-time favorite purchase at Trashy Diva? The stunning and endlessly glamorous Garbo coat. A gorgeous design in luxe black and ivory silk velvet—I get so many comments when I wear it. It keeps you warm, frames your face, and makes you look like you’re about to go have cocktails at Ciro’s with Garbo and Joan Crawford!!
This is me wearing the Garbo coat at my nephew’s wedding at a ski resort in Utah!

Faulkner House—Joe LaSalle, the adorable proprietor who lives in the house, is a professor of English (of course) and runs the Words and Music Fest. The tiny bookstore carries a wide variety of fabulous books, the collection of walking canes is very romantic, and when asked about the ghost of William Faulkner, Mr. LaSalle says he occasionally smells pipe smoke wafting in the air (Faulkner smoked pipes!). Pirate’s Alley—The name alone is reason to enough to walk this alleyway next to St. Louis Cathedral. Walk this alleyway and close your eyes and picture the gorgeous glam pirates who once walked these streets in their big feathered hats, handsome tanned faces and thigh-high leather boots framing muscular thighs… ok I know I’m fantasizing here, but indulge me if you will… if it’s pirate fest, you may even open your eyes and see a real pirate! Or at least…

  • Fairies, Pippi Longstocking, and Tennessee Williams

What a day! I went to the French Quarter this morning for a Master Class on writing at the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival and as I was walking down Bourbon Street at 9am, I was so overwhelmed. There is something about the Quarter–it’s iconic for me. And it’s not just that I’m looking around and seeing the same buildings people saw 300 years ago; it teems with culture, and there’s an authenticity and beauty there that is incomparable. Walking into…

Fifi Mahoney’s! A showgirl’s dream on Royal Street in the French Quarter, Fifi Mahoney’s is beyond fabulous! When I was a showgirl in Los Angeles, I had to get my wigs and makeup at skanky smelly dives on Hollywood Boulevard. I thought I had stepped into Showgirl Heaven when I entered Fifi’s. A red velvet couch shaped like lips, three rooms full of anything a showgirl could desire! A front room full of fabulous makeup, sparkly jewels and hairbands with…
